In the case of our high school it was not equality IMO. Why is it ok to put decorate a locker with the poster of Madonna the singer, but not the Catholic Madonna?
In the 2nd example - yes, it is a different standard, but then again I am not a fan of equality for the sake of equality. I can imagine a parent being unhappy about an atheist child getting a right to skip "under G-d" in the pledge of allegiance - yet you and I would consider it quiet fair.
